I’m getting a late start today, woops. =/ Forgive me?
I think for you to be get a better understanding of my dreams for this room you need to know the history of all of the different things it has been.
When we first moved in it was the dark panel wood with horrible green, yellow, brown shag carpet. It looked dank, disgusting, and pure yuck. Granted i was about 5 when we moved into the house so i really didn’t care about colors/decorating/or anything, what can i say i was young.
Over the years it became the junk room, and i’m talking you can’t even walk up the stairs junk room. It was never painted and never really used. We had an old window unit that could would keep the room bearably cool in the summer if you turned it on; which was never since it sent the electric bill super high.
As i got older and started having more friends hang out at the house my mom quickly realized that we needed a place to go that would: #1 keep us out of her hair #2 we could mess the room up without having to pick it up daily and #3 basically sound proof. We set up a twin bed on the left wall in the last picture you see that acted as day bed and my drumset was in the corner that you see now, we had a TV hooked up with all of my VHS chilling beside it, and there was born the ultimate hang room.
After my mom passed i was able to convert the upstairs into my bedroom. My grandfather & cousin’s husband ripped up the old carpet and laid the one you see in the pictures, painted the walls purple because it was my favorite color, and put in a new window unit.
I loved having this room as a bedroom.
It was huge, could fit lots of crap, i didn’t have to keep it clean, and i could blare my music VERY loudly.
The downfalls:
~It was hot as JUNK in the summer, that poor little window unit can’t keep up with the humidity and summer heat of SC in July & August.
~The two attic doors on either side of the room are not insulated well and let in a lot of heat from the attic.
~There is ZERO closet space, i used an old rolling hanger system to fit all of my clothes (there is no way all of my clothes could fit on that now).
~There is no toilet (i do however have a sink/bar), so in order to use the bathroom at 3am i had to basically face-plant down the stairs and run across the house, lets just say i tried to not use the bathroom often.
There were a few more i’m sure, but again overall i LOVED having it as a bedroom, the privacy was fantastic!!
. . .
Since then I have moved downstairs to the master suite so the upstairs has, as you can see, become junky again.
I don’t like junk rooms, hence the reason i’m starting to tackle the Frog. More importantly, Maria is bringing her bed into the house for her room which leaves me with a full size bed that is about to be displaced. It can’t fit in the garage (trust me you don’t want to see that right now), and obviously the Frog is so full it can’t go there, so it was time for me to take action.

So what are my goals for this frog you are asking yourself?
A place that is functional again!
Seriously, i don’t have too many lofty goals other than having the ability for someone to sleep comfortably and enjoy the space. I do want it to be a place that i can store some of my craft items, and continue to display my drumset (which i hope to re-learn how to play some day).
So…don’t judge me by how horrible this is, but i’m a visual person and i quickly typed over some of the things i want to do:
I’m still at a loss when it comes to figuring everything out. I’m ready to get things rolling and really get it accomplished but in the same breathe i’ve blanked creatively.
I still love the purple but maybe i’ll paint it all white one day or commit to another color…who knows.
For right now the main TO DO’s are as follows:
*Get rid of junk
*Clean out attic for more space
*Buy a new curtain and nix the sheet
*Move current curtain rod up higher (and spray paint white)
*Insulate doors
*Insulate window unit
. . .
Would anyone like to help!?
=)
Or do you have any fancy ideas for me!? Please feel free to share.
