Brother Beast.
Over the weekend i did a little work in my brothers bedroom, aka the man cave. Since his bedroom is the only one in the house that isn’t run over by girls we just kind of leave it be. It smells, it’s messy, it isn’t organized in the slightest, and well…its just jank. 🙂 I had to even plug in a wallflower into his bedroom while he was at school. When he came home for spring break he said “What IS that smell?! ugh” and then a few days later, he liked it. Don’t let him fool you, he likes nice smelling things.
I’ve been asking him to hang up the pictures he wanted on his walls since i painted the room (back in Octoberish). Pshhht, like that would happen.
Let’s take a walk down memory lane shall we?
My brother’s current bedroom actually used to be MY bedroom. I was in that room from age 5-16, and then i moved up to the frog, and now i’m in the master—but back to Bo.
This is what it was looking like after we pulled out the bed and emptied it of most other things, and obviously before painting.
Oh yuck. =/
I was most definitely NOT a fan of that yellow, and for some reason the room looks SUPER small in the last picture. It is by no means a large room, but it definitely has some room to wiggle.
Bo agreed on a grey/black color scheme, so i got to painting. My lines SUCK, i’ll say that up front. It wasn’t until after painting this wall that i had a bright idea.
Whenever you are painting an accent wall ALWAYS paint over the corner side onto the other wall. WHY? So that when you line the tape up to paint the other wall and get a straight line, you won’t see any of the old color coming through. woops. I’ll fix it one day, but hey i’m not having to really stare at it so it doesn’t really bother me.
Coat one of accent wall done:
Now that’s a statement wall!
At first i loved it, then i went through the stage of “oh crap, thats really REALLY dark, what have i done?!” and then i went right on back to loving it.
I also painted all of the trim, because i love my brother, and i hate nasty chipped, dingy trim.
. . .
I then went on to the other three walls and painted them grey (i think it was valspar’s ash grey, i’ll have to double check).
. . .
We ended up moving the bed in there, adjusting some of the furniture, etc.
Bo still hasn’t fully put away/gone through everything. Since he’s been away at school i’ve done all of the packing, moving things, painting, etc for him. I don’t know what he wants and doesn’t want to trash so i just leave it in boxes all around his room. Oh well.
. . .
Back to this weekend.
For MONTHS his room as looked like this:
[well he had the sheets/bed spread on it, i just was in the process of washing them]
Naked walls.
Poor things, they believe in our motto of Modest is Hottest, yet they were always bare…sad day.
I was finally sick of it and decided to take the matter into my own hands muahahaha.
I hung up three of the pictures my dad had given my brother over the top of his bed.
My grandmother would yell at me, actually she did. “Amy, you could have taken a moment to shut the blinds and clear off his side table to make it look nice!” Well WOOPS, dont’cha’know that patience is not even close to my middle name? Plus, like i’ve said before, i want this to be about real life people–and real life is that my brothers room is exactly like this 99% of the time, if not worse.
. . .
I shot the broseph a text with my grandmother posing under the pictures [i’ll save her that embarrassment here] and then we chatted about his two car pictures. We love them, shoot our dad used to have one of the cars [ahem a 1970 dodge hemi challenger, if you own one–i’ll marry you]. What we didn’t love was the nasty yellowish wood frame. YUCK.
The pictures had staples all over the back of the frames so i ended up just taping over the glass and hoping for the best as i painted.
*commence drooling* Do you see that lovely red beast…ahhhh that was the car i used to ride in.
I miss that car like a diabetic misses sugar.
I love thee…
. . .
I waited for them to dry for a few hours and then, like magic, they appeared on the walls.
I’d like to hang just a few more things up on the wall to balance it out a little, but for now i’m digging it.
For the record, my brother hates his bedspread. I found it on clearance at Target and i was like “hey this could work”…he says it is too girly because there are “flowers” on it. HEY there are no flowers on there buddy, just vines and leafs…get your botany right! =)
. . .
What’s left to finish in the broseph’s room!?
*This weekend i’m looking at doing one of these:

I think that a wooden headboard would look awesome in his room! It would help to tie in all of the other wooden pieces (that ironically you can’t see in any of the pictures i posted). I still have to get his thumbs up on that project.
*I need to re-hang the mirror on the right side of the picture above. I hung it before but it was completely off-centered, again there goes my impatient personality.
*I’m also digging this print:

*Clean up/put away all of his stuff and organize his closet.
. . .
This is all why i’m his favorite sister (ahem, only sister).
. . .
Do you have siblings? Do you find yourself taking charge of their decorating or offering up advice?! Are you the older sibling?!
Spill.
