. . .Happy Monday! I actually woke up BEFORE my alarm clock this morning…it was nice, rare and slightly weird but nice.Today’s prompt is one that i love, because i love reminiscing. . . .Tell us the best day of your life, to date. . . .I do have to be honest, there isn’t just one day that sticks out above the rest. I’ve had some incredible days and have been blessed to build some fantastic memories. I try my best to make each day something that is positive, and that will bring some form of light into my heart, so i can’t really pick out just one…ahhhh this is harder than i thought. Let’s see, i’ve graduated high school and college, been in some of my best friend’s weddings, had my first kiss, started in youth ministry…OH, i’ve got it. . . .Since i can’t come up with my “best day evaaaaaa” i’ll share a most recent best day. . . .Insert my D-group girls. I lead a group of three high school girls who are so incredibly awesome. While life hasn’t been easy for them, they face each day with an incredible vibrancy! Obviously, i love these girls! Well this particular wednesday had been a little bla so far; nothing to spectacular.I get to Alive that night and find my girls and we head back to our D-group room where we proceed to get into God’s Word, talk about their lives, and just be girls for 30-45 minutes. I loved hearing about their weeks, listening to their stories, and offering advice as needed. At one point in the conversation one of the girls said, “You know, i’ve never really had a female role model.” I was all, what?! you haven’t?! we need to change this. She then said “but i think i’ve found one”…and this point (i’m being totally honest now) i’m thinking, well hmm who could it be? Is it a celebrity, an author, …? I said, “well, who is that?” and she responded “you.” To say i was floored is an understatement. I had tears build up in my eyes, my throat constricted, and i think my heart swelled a thousand times. I was so incredibly humbled. It was such a beautifully, humbling, remarkable moment that will stick with me forever. I do not feel that i am a role model, and i mess up way more often than i would like to admit, but these girls look up to me…and i look up to them. I’ve forgotten what it was like to really walk through the halls of high school and to face each day with a brave face. They are the ones who are awesome; brave, beautiful, bold, and incredible. <3 them. . . .No matter what we may think, we are influencing someone. Whether that is the people you work with, your family, your children, your students, your friends, your neighbors, or strangers…your words, actions, demeanor, and reactions matter. . . .What about you? What has been one of the best days you’ve had?
Those girls are lucky to have you! I grew up without a good female role model and never really found someone to really look up to until I was 30. I still don't have a mentor and don't know if I ever will… although I would desperately love to have one!
Because I know that is a hole in the lives of so many I have determined to be that person for many others throughout my lifetime. I am currently doing a Bible study with a group of friends called Becoming a Woman of Excellence and out of one of our meetings someone said "be someone worth watching." What you said at the end about being an influence made me think of that. Way to be someone worth watching!!
What a great story! You're right — there are constantly people watching and emulating our actions. Great reminder to stay on top of the way you behave! 🙂
Oh Amy! I love this story.Your D-group girls are lucky to have such a wonderful role model such as yourself!
