Well since i promised a house update yesterday i thought i would stick with my word. π
. . .
Well this past weekend i FINALLY got started on painting my back hallway.
Trust me when i use the words GROSS, nasty, grody, fugly, and just down right nasty.
I mean the thing hasn’t been painted in like 8 years. So 8 years of nasty finger prints, scratches from random items, and gosh knows what else.
Ok, so you get the point it is pretty dang nasty.
Well i picked up a can of paint at Lowes in the mis-tint section.
So yes, i got THIS can of paint that is normally like what $30 or more for $5….the only problem: one gallon didn’t cover the full section. If i’m unable to use the small amount of paint i have left then i’ll end up painting that nook a different color.
Kind of like The Nester’s laundry room (which i love by the way)…

. . .
I do have to admit, that this Low odor, ZERO VOC was amazing the paint fumes were basically next to nothing, and i didn’t feel like i was killing my brain cells every minute.
. . .
Here is the before:
(you can see the paint samples painted on the wall)
. . .
Well…the process of TRIMMING THE ENTIRE FLIPPIN’ HALLWAY WAS DEATH.
Good gosh even though i’ve been told i paint like a speed demon, trimming all of the edges in this room was horrible. I had to keep climbing up and down the step ladder and the whole time i wanted to throw the paint can at the floor.
I also didn’t care one bit about getting paint on the baseboards. WHY you may ask? Because we’re going to be getting the floors replaced and while they rip off the base boards i’ll be painting them white…YAY {along with the door trims and doors}.
So with that being said i’ll show you the afters.
NOW, mind you the color looks a little different than you will see in these pictures. The before pictures were during the day…and well the AFTER were from last night.
See the top right picture, where i ran out of paint? Yeah, that is what i was talking about with potentially having to paint that little nook. I’m hoping i’ll have enough paint to at least do that wall, since i would end up having to re-paint that entire section with a different color.
I’m also (when i paint all of the trim {or maybe before}) going to paint the coat rack white. The room (at night) comes across a little darker than i would like right now, but i think once all of the trim is painted it will really brighten everything up. I would also love to get a door with a huge window to go into the “computer” room (which is really more like a i don’t use this room right now), but that is way down the line.
. . .
I’ve had this painting in my home for years that i knew would look perfect back here. The frame was a deep brown that, while beautiful, would only add to the darkness factor i had going on. So i decided to paint the frame and then sand it down to give it more of a distressed look, which i’m completely digging!
. . .
So with that being done…there are still ALL EMPTY walls.
I’m thinking of hanging the two prints i got from the Shabby Apple a little while ago by the washer and dryer, once that gets painted, but i haven’t settled on anything yet.
So to help me not make up my mind even more i go to Pinterest, which always makes me feel inferior.
I’m loving each one of these pictures they bring incredible inspiration:

This whale canvas is off of Etsy and it’s selling for $45. Maybe one day i’ll buy this beauty.

. . .
So obviously i’m currently obsessing over Whales.
They really are such mysteriously beautiful creatures.
I dont know if i want this back room to necessarily be nautical, but i’m feeling that right now.
Maybe nautical with a few other random things mixed in.
Who knows, apparently i don’t.
BUT it is coming together, and that my friends is what this whole process is about.
. . .
Have you done any painting recently?
What is your favorite painting “tip” that you always follow?
Spill.

ALSO don’t forget, we’ve got another FRANKLY FRIDAY tomorrow!
So get ready to write a post, and link up.
What is Frankly Friday?
{Let’s define Frankly shall we…

. . .
I want this to be a way for all of us to be open, raw, and transparent with not only each other…but with ourselves. I think we put a lot of stock into the “fear” of what others may think of us…into the “fear” of really putting what’s on your heart out there in case someone decides to tear you down.
I’m over the fear & you should be too.
So let’s write…whether it’s about a situation you’re struggling through, a victory you’ve made, a memory that you can’t let go of…anything as long as it’s honest.}

that color is beautiful!!! i can't wait to paint..i know that sounds silly because everyone says it's exhausting and so hard, but i think it's going to be a blast!
happy thursday!

I really like that color! And the whales idea is sooo cool. Different and classy. i like it.
Show us when you're all done!
It's so clean! I love it!
I just painted our (entire freaking) house and it was torturous but it looks so lovely now. I don't have any expert tips though besides don't stop or you will never want to start back up again haha.
Ooooh! I like it!!
Have I done any painting lately?? hahahahahaha. Oh man. I still have sooooo much to go! But I almost have the dining room completely finished now. Just one more quick coat on the walls and it will be done. I'm totally LOVING it too! All our baseboards are white and it looks so nice!
I have a couple friends coming to help tomorrow and my husband might not have work… I'm thinking we'll knock out a TON or work tomorrow. Would be lovely. I'd like to have a day without painting some time soon. π
Love it!! :o)
