Inspiration can be found anywhere really, you just have to know where and how to look for it.
During my lunch break i normally go for a walk around town, and man do i live in a beautiful town.
I’m constantly seeing things/styles/design that i would love to replicate, but lets be honest more often than not we just see pretty things and never replicate them.
So i snapped some pictures {on my phone} of some very traditional Charleston’like things that are all over the downtown area and wanted to share with y’all.
Maybe you will be inspired as well.
. . .
Colors are everywhere Charleston, as well as our iron/gate work. Every time i walk by this place the contrasting colors set to the back drop of the gate work draw me in. I imagine this replicated in a child’s room, a beach house, or a cute country cottage. OR just replicate it in the city like we have. 🙂
. . .
Charleston is FULL of great stone work. The first picture is down at waterfront park and every time i walk over it i keep thinking man that would make a beautiful walk way at a house, or a porch, or _____. The second picture is from a entry way to a home’s courtyard on Queen Street, talk about pretty right? The bold tiling mixed with the washed out walls = love in my book!
. . .
I LOVE seeing all of the different door knockers. This one happens to be my favorite (i’ve seen foxes, more lions, birds, horse heads, pineapples, etc) mostly because it is set against this beautiful black (aka Charleston Green) door! MMMMM Gold/Brass against a solid dark door = fantastic contrast!
Speaking of contrast, how about that gold against a matt black on the art gallery sign swoon right?
I could see both of these contrast’like ideas replicated easily with front doors, bedrooms, even outfits.
. . .
Another thing Charleston is known for? Our growing ivy/greenery on every house surface imaginable. 🙂 It is not uncommon to see steps like the ones below to have the underside covered in greenery, i love it. The second picture is of an alley off of East Bay Street that i love to walk down. The wall (just like many others in the area) is covered in greenery that just keeps growing down the side.
I actually have a neighbor who has done this to her front steps and it is absolutely GORGEOUS.
I’ve even thought of letting the ivy grow on the back of my house…or on a lattice around the garage.
. . .
Last but not least, this beautiful plaque on a wooden door.
I invision a family name, a quote, a household saying etched in there and placed on the front door to the home. I would love to do something like this, but it wouldn’t work on my front door, but maybe near the front door? Hmmm….something to consider.
. . .
What about you?
Where do you find inspiration for your home?
Spill.

Don’t forget to get your post ready for Frankly Friday tomorrow! 🙂
What gorgeous inspiration! These pictures make me want to come visit. 🙂
Beautiful!! I love just walking around town and noticing things you've never noticed before, even if you've lived there forever!
Beautiful touches! Your city is lovely! 🙂
Great pictures! I try to find inspiration in things that I see often or every day.
These are such pretty pretty photos! I love the iron gatework and the brick and ivy. Charleston looks beautiful! Especially because I love walking around old neighborhoods and looking at houses (it's also something that my mom and I like to do together). Sometimes I feel like I'm a bit of a creeper staring at houses, but I love it nonetheless. 🙂
that knocker reminds me of a Christmas Carroll! It is going to turn into Marly!
Ooo I really like the ivy on the steps. I'll have to Pin it for my future house ideas.
haha i was going to say the same thing as beth. AND that it also made me think of aslan. i mean, how fun would it be to have aslan's face on your door knocker. i would feel like i was about to enter into narnia. 🙂
and you live in charleston?? so fun! that is a gorgeous city!
bah those pictures are so beautiful. I think my favorite was the lion knocker! I've never really seen creative ones before.
