i figured it was high time to give a little update on the 2014 house list (i mean it is only july).
my bedroom has been a nightmare for years.
it has been three different colors for around 4 years – the art has never been right, the furniture layout had been the same for over 20 years, it just never felt like my room but my parents room.
with a fresh coat of paint on the walls and a move in furniture, it looks completely different.
there is still a lot to be done in here – a lot; but i no longer cringe when i walk in.
it is slowly starting to feel like an oasis, and that is what i want.
i want a place i can come in, crash, relax and unwind.
i find myself using the love seat to do my devotionals, reading, converse with friends (am i the only one who hangs out with people in their room?) some blog work, etc.
let’s take a look back at some “before” pictures shall we (so i can feel better about the small progress).
i’ve had a few people tell me they miss the flower mural – i might do something again…in another room in the house, it was a lot of fun to paint and definitely added a little extra umph.
excuse the lighting in the pictures below.
it was a cloudy day outside and after 6pm when i decided to take them.
also i stink at interior lighting.
(which means that the paint color looks green/blueish in certain pictures instead of the nice gray that it is; the second and third pictures are a really accurate depiction of the true color.)
i also did not clean for these pictures.
you’re getting to see all the old art laying against the walls, bags on the floor, etc.
i figured if there was going to be an “in progress” picture it needed to really reflect where i am.
(which is currently stuck). // trying to figure out what to put on the walls = tough as crap.
paint color | stone mill by BEHR in eggshell
curtains | cotton canvas printed from west elm (on clearance now!)
bedding | target
flower lights | world market (years ago)
bedroom set | great grandmothers from the 1920-30s
love seat | from my grandmother
metal deer head | michaels (home goods)
to do:
// hang mirror above dresser.
// figure out what to do with artwork above love seat.
// art work flanking the right side of the room when you walk in.
// de-clutter dresser (aka find a home for all of my crap).
// move love seat out from the wall (?)
// move deer head – it is just currently on a nail that would not come out of the wall.
// new comforter set. (current one is older and getting dingy)
// hang bamboo curtains and toss broken roll blinds.
// rug at the foot of my bed?
// move tall jewelry holder.
// art on either side of window?
// hardwood flooring (WAY DOWN THE ROAD)
and let’s not discuss the other side of the room (the vanity/sink/closet/bathroom area). while it is partially painted (everything but where the toilet/shower is) it is a hot mess of crap.
& looking at my for the home | pinterest board…i’ve come to realize i like a lot of white/airy spaces – and statement pieces – now how to make that translate into my bedroom (and home) on a tight budget is going to wind up being hilarious.
looks so great!!! that flower mural is awesome, too! so that'll be great if you do something like that later on too! and those curtains are super cute!
This looks so good amy!! I love the lights above your bed and I love the look of the white comforter! I want a white comforter so bad but it would get soooo dirty soooo fast with the dogs
Way to just get it out there, "stuck" place and all!!! 🙂 My room STILL looks like it's under construction…I've moved the furniture no less than 4 times and I'm still not sure about any of it. I think I just have too much stuff.
Back to YOUR room…I LOVE the color and I think you're only going to love having that love seat in there MORE as time goes on. Those canvas prints you have leaning against your long dresser are GREAT. I can't wait to see what you do with all of the art you have to hang up!!! The lights and curtains are so pretty. Tell me about the picture you have on your tall dresser leaning against your mirror (was that your friend's wedding that you were in earlier this year?). I really, really like your bedding, but I can understand being ready for something different!
Looks so good!! Isn't it amazing how much a coat of paint and few other changes can drastically change a room??
Love that bedspread! I almost bought the same one but found a little cheaper version at Ikea.
I love your bedding!
Love what you did! I agree about the flower piece, I liked that a lot too. That paint sure did freshen it up!
Gahhhhhh, I love it all. My goodness that room looks so comfy, so relaxing, and so me, too. Come help me with my room next? 🙂 But seriously, I love a good room makeover and this one does not disappoint. I love that paint color and the white bedding, too. I've always thought of getting a white duvet cover but always worry I'll get pen or something on it. Hmmm, this just might have changed my mind. 🙂 Great work!
It looks great, Amy!! I think you do a great job with a tight budget.
It's so hard to take photos of rooms and get the lighting right! I really like the new paint color, though!
