oh man…something exciting happened this weekend!
we finally removed the insert in our fireplace.
this insert has been in the house since it was built – (1972) and while it is great, it isn’t really practical for us…and it is a pretty big eye sore.
my grandfather, brother, cousin, brothers friend, and neighbor pulled the sucker out, put it on some wheels and rolled it out of the house.
HOOZAH!
that sucker is gone.
i then spent an hour or two scrubbing the crap out of the front of the fireplace.
after all of the years of the insert being in there the amount of dust, ash, and dirt built up was just insane.
and it was disgusting.
i was disgusting.
COVERED in ash…and i was blowing my nose in the shower and black just kept coming out.
so why didn’t i scrub the inside?
because we will be having more fires this season – no point in doing something twice 😉
what we still need to do:
– get a new damper (the other one rusted through)
– get a grate to hold the firewood
– get a screen to keep curious tobi from crawling in there.
– more. dang. scrubbing
p.s. excuse the low-quality grainy iphone photos…it is what it is.
we also started to tackle the upstairs attic space…one ENTIRELY FULL CAR LOAD, three trips to putting huge items on the street, two trash cans, one recycling can later and we’ve made a small dent in the insanity that is one side of the attic. that is what happens when you’re parents have died 10+ years ago and it hasn’t really been touched since.
have you done anything to update your house lately?
i would love to hear about it!
