With this HUGE hurricane heading straight towards my home coast I’ve been thinking a lot about hurricane preparedness. If you live anywhere near a hurricane path you know that the hurricane season starts June 1st and goes through November 30th. That means you should make sure your preparation kit is prepared ever year and go through cleaning out expired goods, checking batteries, etc every single year.
Growing up I remember the start of every hurricane season because my mom would pull everything out from the bottom of our large pantry and go through her handwritten list to make sure we had everything we needed just in case. I’ve sat through a few smaller hurricanes (cat 2 and below) and actually left during one of the last ones even though I could have stayed.
It’s a nerve wracking season full of a lot of unknowns. When a storm starts heading your way you begin to pray it will turn, prepare for the worst, and question every single decision in regards to staying or leaving. If the storm isn’t coming you way you pray for others and open up your home to friends traveling out of the storms path.
I mainly created this for my own preparations when I’m back home and felt like this could be useful for others to hold on to whenever they need to prepare. This is also great for other emergencies to have on hand.
If you’re thinking about it say a prayer for everyone in this storms path. Pray for wisdom, for safety, for good healthy, and for no casualties. Selfishly I am hoping all of my family stays safe and our new home doesn’t flood!
Does your family have storm preparations where you live? (hurricane, snow, etc)
What are some of your key things you always make sure to have on your list??
