Ah let’s jump back to early 2019 where I created the Master Homestead To-Do list (honestly it could use some updating). Since moving back here before Eddie deployed (January 2019) a lot of changes have gone down, especially while Eddie was gone. I’ve painted plenty of walls, sold lots of things on FB Marketplace, and saved some $$ for certain projects. You can check up on all of my home update posts: the office, above the TV shelf, our sunroom, guest bedroom, & the linen closet.
I’m so glad to finally be sharing this guest bathroom refresh. Honestly the main stuff has been done for a month or so but the mirror has been on back order and it FINALLY came back in stock and I was able to order it before it went back out of stock. I’m debating with adding a shelf under the mirror but at this time I’m just going to live with it for a while and see if the spacing grows on me.
I hope this encourages you to re-think a space and remember that paint can change so much, and so can an extra large shower curtain!! We are all spending a ton of time at home so why not make the most of it by freshing up some spaces that may have not been serving you well.
Before
Original To-Do List
- Remove popcorn ceiling
- New trim
- Paint trim white
- Paint
- New window trim
- New air vent covers
- New floors
- Remove shower casing and glass doors and tile it out
- New vanity
- New mirror
- New light fixture
The truth is some of those items won’t happen for some time as we aren’t in a place for a total re-haul. Since I pass this space every single day I was tired of that h-i-d-e-o-u-s yellow paint and massive glass shower doors that never stayed clean. One night I helped Eddie take them down and sold them for about $75 on facebook marketplace (they sold fast!). I then spent a day painting the room (ugh painting behind toilets are the worst) my new favorite color. After the paint color was on the wall I came up with the rest of the updates that would work with the tiled floors, wood vanity and stone top (again, not ready for a re-haul).
I really wanted to have as much natural light come through as possible and originally thought I was going to use privacy film but I worried it would end up feeling really cold. I found this tutorial on how to make a half curtain panel and went to Goodwill where I found a beige curtain and cut it to length and hemmed the top.
I still have one major thing to do for this re-fresh, which is spray paint the light fixture matte black but we just haven’t gotten there yet and I’m learning to just be comfortable if things take a little longer than I thought.
(I also added two wide-angle cell phone photos at the bottom to help better see the layout of this space)
