I love music.
like really really really love music.
I grew up in a house where records, cassettes, and cds were just as important as toothpaste. My dad was constantly quizzing us on who the drummer was for which band, who sang vocals, guitar, bass, etc. Our reward if we guessed enough right? A sobe drink from the gas station. Jealous? You should be. ๐
This past weekend i was able to go to a show that left me feeling like i was 14 again. I was so excited to see this performer; so amped up to finally hear his music and voice live, overjoyed to be immersed in a crowd of people who was there for the same reason i was. {i like happy crowds, crowds that are quiet when you need to be, cheering when something amazing happens, and is respectful}
Let me map out the day for you.
Spring Jam was supposed to start at 11am on Sunday {they had performers on Saturday too}; imagine my horror when i woke up at 6am!! to buckets of rain, lightening and thunder. Did i mention that Spring Jam is an outdoor festival? Oh, yeah there was that little piece of information. My friend Beverly and I started having a minor freak out. Would Ed Sheeran be able to perform if they had to delay the opening?! We knew he had a flight out because he was performing on David Letterman Monday night. After much waiting, freaking out, pacing, and finally a shower we found out that gate openings were delayed until 2pm. We still had no confirmation whether or not Ed would be able to perform but we loaded into my car and drove through the flooded streets of downtown anyways. We got in line outside of the gate and held our phones in hand waiting to hear if we would get to see him perform.
I just got an update Beverly whispered He is supposed to go on at around 2:40.
Hallelujah chorus.
Gates opened. Crowd waded through swamp grass (there was so much rain the event space had flooded). Running may have happened. We landed about 5 rows back from the gate. Opening band started. Excitement and adrenaline started pumping. Then those words we all had waited to hear…
Give a Charleston welcome to Ed Sheeran!
Thrilled screams at deafening pitches ensued, myself included…ahhh to be 14 again.
This was really happening.
I haven’t been to a concert in quite some time…either money has been tight, or i’ve been lazy, or i missed the opportunity. This time though, i wasn’t going to miss out on hearing this guy’s talent because of the rain. Now, let me just go ahead and say that i do not like all of Ed Sheeran’s lyrics. Some are a little raunchy/groady and he talks about being wasted a lot. However i do love his voice, his hilarious interviews, and the fact that he truly seems like the most genuinely nice dude you’ll encounter for a while. Not to mention that he seemed truly overjoyed to be playing for us and that we knew his lyrics.
. . .
Needless to say when we left the concert i was on cloud 9. It was a great performance, a great crowd, a great moment! I’m so happy i spent the $20 to go…it was completely worth it.
{p.s. sorry for the crappy quality pictures, i actually had my camera there but i don’t have a great zoom lens, and i couldn’t find my usb uploader…whoops}
What about you?
Who is one of your favorite musicians?
Do you miss squealing like a 14 year old?
{**Don’t forget to link-up for Frankly Friday if you have something you need to be frank about! **}
so so so so neat!! i love seeing artists in smaller settings like that. and he is just so brilliant. way jelly girl.
I love music and concerts! I can totally relatevto your sense of EXCITEMENT! ๐ I also know the feeling of getting to see an artist before they make it big….Their humility at that point always just makes me want to hug them and tell them to keep singing!
ps I am convinced that your Dad was awesome!
ummm. . please let's still be friends but I am afriad I have no idea who Ed is – if i google his songs I am sure I know them but I am SO BAD at knowing who sings what.
BUT you look like you had a blast and that it was an adventure! that is the fun prat and the thing you will always remember!!
Aww, I'm so glad you enjoyed the concert! Sounds like he really does love performing!
This is adorable! Looks like you guys had a blast. I love being 14 again. ๐
i always like a 14 year old (or younger) when it comes to music. just can't help it. and I love ed Sheerhan!
Ed Sheeran is a new revelation for me. I bought his cd about 2 weeks ago and I haven't stopped listening to it! I love it!! And I won't even lie, I totally geek out when I go to a T-Swift concert…just like all the other 13 year old girls. In fact, I'm going to see her in May and I'm hoping to see Ed when he opens up for her!! Glad you got to see the show!!
He is great! But, does he look as much like Ron Weasley in person as he does in pictures? ๐
I love outside concerts! They're seriously better than an inside concert any day! haha. Here in Germany in Nuremberg, they have a big weekend concert called "Rock im Park" and goodness the line up is soooo good, but I cannot afford it! Boooo
kinda jealousโฆsounds like you had so much fun! love the story behind "kiss me". so cute!!
a friend and i are trying to get tickets to a phillip phillips concert later this month. love that boy.
