frankly…
so we have this huge bridge run this weekend in our town. around 40,000 people show up and it basically shuts down our city because we are just not built to handle that many extra people. i’ve gotten roped into the walk portion this year, so i’ll be braving the insane crowds to walk the bridge with my little cousin. woop woop! also…not to be all stereotypical southern or anything but i’m getting really frustrated with how many people are moving here. listen, i get it, charleston is gorgeous, full of history, and there is always something to do. BUT we are not built to handle the massive influx of people coming in, and it is making traffic absolutely insane! my morning commute SHOULD be 20 minutes, it is more like 40 minutes, my evening commute should be 30 minutes, it averages about an hour and just keeps getting longer (this is for LESS than 9 miles guys!). i get it, i should be thankful we have such a booming tourist population and it helps our local economy and we’re rated the best city in the USA for like the 3rd year in a row – we’re awesome. but instead of moving here, and raising our taxes, our cost of living, and all around COST just visit. come rent a beach house on folly or kiawah, go stay near the plantations – really tons to see…but do it as a tourist. NOT TO LIVE HERE – please go home. i’m getting so sick of people asking me “so how long have you lived here?” and i say “my whole life” and they respond with “wow, that is rare”…all i can do is shake my head and think, yeah, because everyone is now a transplant and this beautiful city is starting to get ugly and crowded. sometimes i wish it WASN’T so beautiful – then it wouldn’t be so overrun. we’re a nice city, full of friendly people – but as locals, we’re starting to get fed up with this mass rush of people moving here. end rant.
+ i’ve really been enjoying the sunshine lately – it is so nice to have tanlines even if there is a super weird one on my thigh hahaha
+ i really want to do this with my fridge. i’m all about some organization.
+ i would love to do make this diy art project happen this weekend.
+ another set of stunning pictures.
+ i’ve set up a hair appointment for the end of the month, looking at going with this style.
+ speaking of hair, i loved this post on three ways to wear a scarf with curly hair!
+ ha. ha. ha.
+ absolutely in love with this tattoo.
+ i just want to brag on myself for a minute 😉 i can hold this move for like 5 seconds = progress!
have a lovely, non-crowded weekend friends!
I would love to do that bridge walk!! We are visiting Charleston in June. Do you have any insider tips for us? It is our favorite city and we may be looking at some real estate too. Know any good realtors? Blessings! Susan
I'm kind of surprised to hear you rant about people moving there. I feel like it's typically the tourists people complain about.
#1 I am so sorry to hear that Charleston is being overrun by more people than it can handle who are all wanting to stay…:(
#2 Your list of links was especially great this week! 🙂 I would love to do something like that in my fridge too. You should definitely do that art project – with your handwriting, it would be perfect!!! I think that hair would look GREAT on you. Oh and I'm going to share that cartoon with my cat loving Mother…That is too much!
Happy Friday. Don't spray any of the transplants with weed killer, k? 😉
oooo… love that hair style! I'm trying to let mine grow back out… but I may need to get that cut sometime soon too! I'm totally THAT PERSON that's going to copy you. Ha!
I recently saw this quote on FB…
"You can't always change your situation but you CAN change your attitude."
🙂 Love ya friend!
traffic is the worst!!! so many people are moving to Greenville too – probably not as much as Charleston, but it takes me about 40 minutes to get to work and an hour to get home too. it's ridiculous! and forget about going anywhere quick on a saturday!
Haha, I know about that run! My sister and I were trying to plan a last minute trip to Charleston for this weekend and everything is booked out! A sweet b&b finally told us that we probably shouldn't come this weekend because of the crazies.
We will definitely be renting a little house or staying at a b&b sometime soon, though!
Love the links! Off to check 'em out!
I think that's the cost of living in nicer cities. Same with LA. I guess the locals are actually the nicer ones but all the other people who move there end up ruining it for everyone. I couldn't stand living there so now I'm in Vegas. 🙂
Love the DIY art. I would probably want to practice free writing though. 🙂 and that is awesome that you can hold that pose for 5 seconds. I don't think I will even attempt it.
I love that "you will forever by my always" sign! I've been wanting to make one of those!
I LOVE that hair! Girl, you will look great with that!
Bummer for traffic. I guess I can't really complain about there being more people around here, too, seeing as the commute isn't as drastically affected!
On a better note, hooray for great links! I think you'd totally rock that hair AND tattoo (do you have any tattoos, out of curiosity? for some reason I can totally see you with one like that mountain!!!).
I LOVE the video. Her red hair is the bomb!!! And those scarf ideas are big winners!
I can kind of relate, except no one really comes to my small town for anything. But, when I was at college, I was friends with tons of actual locals to the area. And we all felt the same when we had football games there on the weekends. As much as we loved our football, we didn't like the thousands of people and the town really couldn't handle it in some ways. Summers really were the best.
+ I would love to do that with my fridge. But, I know with my parents it wouldn't last long. ha!
+ I LOVE that hairstyle and cut! My curly hair is the type that the longer it gets, my curls get weighted down and don't curl as great. Which is sad because I LOVE my long hair. So, normally I keep it a little longer than shoulder length and with layers.
+ Love the scarf video! And her hair! Her awesome, vibrant red hair is so beautiful! Also, I'm impressed when people with curly hair can pin up their hair so easily. I can never do that…
+ O.M.G. I want that tattoo. Like seriously. That is genius and gorgeous.
+ And I'm super impressed that you can hold that move. I now want to try and hope that I don't faceplant…which I probably will.
I can relate, in a way. When Hurricane Katrina happened pretty much ALL of New Orleans came to Baton Rouge. At one time. It was INSANE! I have never seen so many cars on our roads! And people, everywhere…mainly disgruntled people. (Not that i can blame them!) I'm not trying to sound like a horrible person… but they brought their crime with them. This is why we are like #1 (or something) now for MURDER! B/c even when NOLA rebuilt, only some people went home. Some moved other places. And many stayed here. MANY! I'm thankful b/c i have some theatre friends that are here, that i never would have met if not for that. But wow. Thankfully it's not as bad as it was that year (2005) b/c that was ridiculous! But it's a different city than it was pre-katrina.
I really really want to visit Charleston! And i've always said i want to move to SC, NC, or Savannah GA! But don't worry – my husband would never allow it! Haha! (He doesn't like change!)
I hadn't looked at your links yet! Oops!
All i have to say about them is –
that girl's hair is GORGEOUS, i LOVE it!!!!
You can hold that pose!?!?!! OMG! I thought it was going to be a simple plank! LOL! That is AMAZING!
ooh! i hope your bridge run was great and that there weren't too many transplants there 😉
did you get your haircut?? i want to see pictures!
i can totally see you rock that hair. the colors is amazing.
and that tattoo? epic.
Wow that's a lot of people. I can totally understand your frustration with all the extra traffic.
I'm super in love with that tattoo too.
