There is something beautiful in the continual curiosity of learning and growing in our understanding of something we love or something we want to know more about. That’s where I find myself in the areas of herbalism, homeopathy, and more “non-traditional” or should we even say traditional ways of approaching wellness/illness. The more I learn about medicinal plants, the way the sunshine heals, etc I’m constantly blown away by how God uses all things to bring Him Glory. His creation cries out and a bring waves of wellness; it’s just all so cool!
Building your little apothecary cabinet is one that takes time as it’s not really realistic/feasible to always just fully stock up on all these things. Start with small changes and over time they will turn into a beautiful system that supports your system in a way that will promote healing over just masking the symptoms.
***I am in no way an expert in any of these areas; I am not sharing medical advice and always suggest talking with your medical practitioner before starting any new routine. I just want to share the things I’ve been learning about.
So here are some of the resources, brands, items and more that I’ve been learning about and loving! If you have your own resources you love, brands you support, or just general advice/questions/curiosities I would love to hear about them!
How I would start building my apothecary
If you were to ask me “I don’t know where to start, but I want to make a change” these would be the things I would say to get your hands on. As I said earlier, start small and slowly build your knowledge and resources; you don’t have to purchase all of these at once!
- Tinctures: There are multiple brands I love and support with tinctures and I am also learning how to make my own. I’ll share some of my Go-To’s from different brands:
Earthley – Feel Better Fast, Cough Be Gone, Pain Potion,
Dr Green Life – Nature Profen Kids, Temperature Tamer (we use this all the time), VaxClear, Natures Biotic (This link will give you $15 off your 1st order of $50 or more!)
WishGarden Herbs – Kick Ass Immune, Get Over It, Bad Ass Bitters, Kick It Cough (kids), Deep Lung & Bronchial Support - Homeopathy: This is an area I’m still learning SO MUCH about and it’s incredible! They come in pellet form that you put under your tongue and they dissolve. I also have my son (age 4) chew them up. I mainly use the brands Boiron, Ollois, and Hylands makes some great ones for Kids! ⭐ I do have discount codes at the bottom of this post! / My Go Tos: Spongia Tosta, Dosera, Nux Vomica, Arnica and so many more
- Hydration: Having proper hydration is KEY to so many things. If you use filtered water (I have the ProOne Filter) make sure that you re-mineralize your water – I use Trace Minerals Drops. Electrolytes are another must have and there are so many great brands out there; lately I’ve been using this one.
- Red Light Therapy: The clinical studies behind the healing of red light therapy is incredible! I personally have the LUMEBOX red light and you can use this link/discount code for $260 off. This has been a game changer for us with sickness, sore muscles, anxiety, etc
- Castor Oil: Detoxing our liver is so important and I’ve found that you really do need to have 100% cotton fabric and quality castor oil. I personally use this castor oil pack, these cotton fabric liners, and this castor oil for regular use and this one for on the go. Do your research on how best to use a castor oil pack (how long, where to place it, etc)
- Herbs/Teas: You’ll see more below, I’ve shared my favorite ones.
- Minerals: Detox bath soak: Magnesium & Bentonite Clay with Apple Cider Vinegar, Magnesium lotion (I love the Earthley brand)
- Nebulizer + saline for congestion: I have a portable nebulizer similar to this one and then this saline is a great option.
- Humidifier: I prefer the Carepod as it’s stainless steel and super easy to keep clean.
- Manuka Honey – I use this one to take orally and this one for wounds as an ointment.
- Other brands I Love – Bee Keepers, Hylands, Plant Therapy; I love shopping iherb because they have a great selection

Supplies I Use
- Homeopathy Organization: Stunning (small business made) wooden organizer. SO MUCH EASIER than digging through a basket.
- Amber Bottles: You can get them in spray bottles, tincture bottles with a dropper, etc You can also save and sterilize tincture bottles from when you finish with other brands!
- Glass Jars: You can find so many good ones at thrift stores and then give them a sterile cleaning! If you want to purchase new a wide mouth mason jar is always a good starting point!
- Label Maker: I use this for labeling glass jars, tinctures, drawers, etc.
- LARGE cold brew tea maker: I love popping some herbs in here and letting them infuse the water over night to drink throughout the next day
- All Purpose 2 drawer storage – I use these for so many things in our house but I LOVE using them to collect symptom/sickness specific medicines/remedies
Herbs I Use/Love
I’m still learning SO MUCH about herbalism and it’s constantly blowing my mind. I’ve taken two classes at our local botanical gardens on herbs/tinctures/etc and it’s been incredibly enlightening. I would highly suggest looking at your local resources for learning hands on. Herbs are a powerful resource that provide key minerals, can lower blood pressure, hep with anxiety, boost your immune system, etc
***If you are on any medication please talk with your practitioner before taking new herbs as some may counteract with prescription medication!***
- Nettle – has so many amazing minerals for our bodies!
- Hawthorn Berry – Can be great for heart health!
- Mullein – I use this one ALL the time for colds/respiratory illness
- Hibiscus
- Elderberry
- Dandelion Root
- Echinacea
- Red Raspberry Leaf
- Peppermint
- Chamomile
- Lemon Balm
- If loose herb teas aren’t your jam you can find so many great tea companies that have premade blends:
Pique Life: Essential Immune Support Set, Rooibos Vitality Elixir
Rishi Tea: Elderberry Healer, Turmeric Ginger

Books I’ve Gathered
Having your own personal little wellness library to be incredibly beneficial. I’m able to have a resource at the tips of my fingertips in the middle of the night (often when illness hits as us moms know!). I’ve learned how to make tinctures, salves, herbal tea blends, etc. I’ve had great luck finding some of these books at thrift stores, thriftbooks.com, and borrowing from the library; so feel free to check those out first! I also have a little journal where I write down remedies, recipes, etc from social media that I’ve saved as I don’t want to rely on my phone all the time.

Other Crunchy/Helpful Things
- Checking your linen choices – A few years back I started to slowly switch from synthetic fibers to natural fibers. I am not 100% there yet but I focus on quality items and that takes time to build. We use linen sheets (I LOVE Quince) and cotton/linen blankets/comforters. We also LOVE using our sheep skins for temperature regulation & medicinal purposes.
- Period Care – A great change to make here is to switch to a cup (it’s not as scary as it sounds), period underwear, or reusable pads. Better for your body & the environment.
- Candles – I highly suggest switching over to beeswax candles (I love these everyday tapers and these chunkier colored tapers) or essential oils.
- Cookware – Cast Iron, Stainless Steel, Ceramic are your best options. I’ve switched over to the WonderOven for air frying, the Cook Magnifique for Slow Cooking, Stainless steel pots/pans for cooking, and this is my favorite mini-pancake making cast iron pan!
- Switching to Wood/Glass cutting boards vs plastic
- Switching to wooden/stainless steel cooking utensils vs plastic
- Investing in some reusable beeswax snack bags!
