so, i went to maine.
eddie recently moved for his job (navy) and we were counting down the days until my first visit to the north east.
i was looking forward to all that i had heard, the cooler weather, beautiful rocky coast, light houses, and of course lobster. y’all i can not put into words how excited i was to finally eat shellfish after not eating it for 15 years (long story – i had a reaction once and just avoided, got allergy tested and it came back negative).
i arrived in boston around 1030 on a thursday night and we drove the hour back to eddie’s place in kittery. it was wonderful seeing him again after a month apart. our next day was spent with the movers bringing all of his furniture to the house and i frantically unpacked the kitchen while the boxes, and boxes came through the door. my main goal was to have his kitchen fully set up by the time i left. after unpacking for a while we wanted to go out and see a lighthouse eddie visited when he went up to sign his lease.
the town of york maine as beautiful.
i was blown. away. that people were not only on the beach in swim suits, but IN THE WATER when it was like 58 degrees outside. uh – y’all crazy. that ‘s fall weather for this southern girl and i am sure you would melt if you came into the southern dead-of-summer heat. haha.
i also wanted to just park myself on the beach and look at the overcast day until the sunset (but that isn’t realistic, and i would eventually need a bathroom). i am a lover of overcast days – especially on a beach with fog!
my mind kept racing through photo session ideas – ahh how i would love to take some portraits of peeps with these backdrops!
we kept driving to find a place to stop and eat.
and then i saw this beach (towards the end of the post) and i made eddie pull over.
then we noticed the fun-o-rama and decided to go check it out.
y’all
this place is AMAZING and only a 20 minute drive from eddie’s place – so i can see us spending many, many nights here! it was a building FULL of old arcade games (with tickets and prizes!!!). we stood there for a minute and eddie broke the silence with “we’re doing this!” and i was pumped.
we got change and started playing games and collecting tickets!
THERE WAS EVEN A FORTUNE TELLER LIKE ZOLTAN! (BIG anyone?! – and zoltan was there, but the other one was more like the movie) – and our fortunes were pretty on-point, it was kinda creepy – you would think that mechanical broad really knew me or something.
we ended up getting a long-neck dinosaur figurine (an inside thing with us), and two pieces of candy! oh, and we totally got into the photobooth and took some pictures – which is another us-thing.
we ended up grabbing dinner at this local inn + restaurant combo, inn on the blues, and it was amazing. i’m not going to lie, i was like “this could be alright” and then we walked in and my interior decorator heart just went into a tizzy. eddie could see my face light up and just smiled and said “do your thing” and i started snapping some pictures looking like a crazy tourist. i KNEW i was going to order lobster – so i got a lobster roll and eddie got some sort of fish – and then we ordered these pretzel sticks that were LEGIT huge pretzel sticks with mac&cheese butter yes, you just read that right. i’m still craving them.
i think i could make a pit stop in york every time i visit eddie.
aren’t those foggy beaches just magical?
gosh – it just stills my heart.
