figuring out what to title this was…interesting.
i’ll expound on it a little further down – so let’s chat about the small updates on this room.
eddie has lived here for hmmm about 2-ish months and still has boxes everywhere and had NOTHING hung up on the walls or really anything done. i think his kitchen was in order only because i unpacked it when the movers dropped it all off. now to put things into context – eddie moved from his 3 bedroom home into military housing and put some stuff in storage, but also doesn’t have 1/10th of the things i do, and he says he just doesn’t really care. 🙂
the first thing i had to address was the curtains.
sunrise is around 530am – and those dinky little blinds did NOTHING to keep the light out – and once i’m woken up it’s hard to fall back asleep. i happened to have another set of these ikea curtains laying around the house so i packed them in my carry-on and brought them to maine. did i think white curtains would block the light? no, not at all – but i did think they would help mask it some (which they do, but i will need either black-out curtains or darker curtains to really help).
we purchased the cheaper curtain rod from target in silver (not my favorite, but it works for now) and we eyeballed the height while eddie screwed them into the wall. i may have squealed because i felt like it made such a difference! the next day we ran into target because i remembered seeing the pendant lights a few weeks prior and wanted them for his room (he had zero lighting in there minus sunlight and the salt lamp i had given him to take to maine). they had this gold/brassy option as well as a matte black and i asked which ones he wanted to which he responded “get what you like” – welllll we all know i was going to get gold! and then i found gideon (the wire antelope head) and my heart soared (thank you clearance!).
we still need to move gideon further down on the wall – and we’re looking at big ol’ ikea ribba frames and black and white pictures for under the pendant lights- and probably some new furniture – because the bed is a little meh (and has broken slats that we can easily replace if we keep it), and he has one OLD rickety tall dresser that doesn’t even hold all of his clothes.
p.s. did i mention i did like 10 loads of laundry that trip – to wash all of his boxed clothes, fold them, and put them away!
p.p.s i’ve already told eddie i really want to do this DIY to help make the space feel more homey.
after we got engaged eddie told me that he really did like the room – he was trying to throw me off by saying it felt so “girly”. as i look at these pictures – and as i looked around the room the last few days in kittery before flying back to charleston i found myself thinking “this will be our room”…it’s just so crazy to me. like – i will be a WIFE in this room, in this new home, and how different it is and will be from the home i’ve built for myself. i will definitely start decorating it more and more each time i fly up during our engagement – and poor eddie really doesn’t understand what he has gotten himself into ;). i still don’t think i fully grasp the fact that #1 i’m moving and that #2 i’ll be living with a boy when i get married. like i GET IT but i just, wow, it’s mind blowing.
so we will have many more updates to come – but man, making these small little updates truly brings a little life and love to a room. <3

pendant lights | target
wire antelope | target (similar – i own this one too!)
p.s. taking these pictures made me realize how much i need a wide angel lens
It’s challenging to locate well informed people on this matter, but you seem like you comprehend what you’re
talking about! Thanks
