{pictures are a mixture of iphone and my canon}
We actually woke up late this morning (8:30) and took a while to get ready/situated.
We ended up catching a bus back into city center and walked around (in the rain) until we found the Edinburgh Castle{16 pounds}; it was cold and rainy! {this was our only day of rain, and it was only a 1/2 day!}
I had on my usual capris and t-shirt with my rain jacket and book-bag strapped on.
Bad idea.
#1 the book-bag was k.i.l.l.i.n.g me. After wearing it for 4 straight days my shoulders/back had enough. Thankfully Hannah & Shevy took turns carrying it for me. 🙂
It also was not covered which mean that by the time we got to the ticket booth (we had to stand in line for a while) it was completely soaked. THANK GOODNESS i had put my camera in an extra little bag within my book-bag otherwise it would have been soaked. I ended up getting a poncho to go over my book-bag. Little did i think that poncho + wind = a whirling trashbag.
{^ whirling trashbag}
While we were waiting in line this lady kept hitting Hannah & Shevy in the head with her umbrella.
We would be standing there and the woman would walk right up in their personal space and whack them on the head with the pointy parts of the umbrella. At first it was “oh hey whatever” but by the 8th time they were getting seriously ticked off – and i stood there laughing, as always. Eventually Shevy just backed right up and ducked under the umbrella with the lady…HER FACE WAS HILARIOUS!
Once we were within the castle…take my breathe away!
We walked through war rooms, royal living quarters, prisoner of war quarters, and we were able to see the royal jewels!! It really was something incredible to walk through buildings and rooms that had history much older than the united states. To see pictures, hear stories, and gaze upon jewels that have existed for hundreds of years – simply blew my mind.
It was all really beautiful (even in the rain) and we learned so much about Scottish history and had fun exploring the different areas of the Castle. I would say that if you end up going to the Edinburgh Castle – give yourself at least half the day, if not a full day. There is so much to see and experience that you don’t want to be rushed. Also eat a solid meal and carry some water while you’re there so you’re not starving and cranky like i became halfway through. 😉
. . .
After the castle we grabbed some food at “Castle Arms” – traditional fish and chips.
It was truly delicious but so greasy. It made me feel really sick later on that night.
After eating we ended up walking around for a while exploring and sight seeing.
I loved how after a few days of being in the area we really knew our way around.
If i was to go back today and you dropped me off in downtown edinburgh i’d be able to find my way back. That night we were going to head to a pub but i wasn’t feeling well and everyone else was pretty tired. We spent the night reading, doing laundry, and playing spoons while drinking some magners.
It was a great way to end the our last day in Scotland.
hahahaha. the poncho and umbrella stories! it's hilarious sometimes how people's perception of personal space is so varied in different cultures.
your pictures of edinburgh castle = AHmazing.
Europeans seriously have no concept of personal space. I've had so many people get right up on me. If I have a backpack on I "casually" swing back and forth to whack them back.
I love that Shevy found a non-combative way to deal with the problem!
How absolutely gorgeous!!! I'VE BEEN THERE!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
Weird…was she accidently hitting people or doing it on purpose?
Those buildings are breathtaking! Looks like a scene right out of the movie "Made of Honor"! haha
XOXO

I think some of Hogwarts was modeled after some of these buildings as well. Great photos!
The poncho blowing in the wind picture = HILARIOUS!
What an awesome day! Sometimes the vacation days where everything is definitely not perfect end up making for the best memories!!! Love the pictures and Chevy's boldness to just join the lady under the umberella. 🙂
…and I spelled that wrong – Shevy* Shevy* Shevy!
gorgeous pictures!! Such great memories. 🙂
So I know I say this every time I see your photos, but I WANT TO GO! It just all looks so amazing! Sorry the food made you feel a little yucky, but over all I'm so glad everything was amazing!
