getting to ireland was full of delays (7 hours in JFK and 7 hours in Dublin) – but once we got into our rental car at the Kerry airport the anticipation and excitement bubbled over the exhaustion.
so many beautiful sights, tight twisting roads, and your heart jumping into your throat at the absolute amazing views was beyond words.
we stopped at killarney national park in the midst of our drive to look around, stretch our legs, and pop into the restroom. we explored maybe 1/25th of the property and were completely awe-struck. the trees, the paths, the water, mountains, gardens, horses, and forests stilled my heart.
we just kept looking at each other thinking “is this real, IS THIS REAL?!” (p.s. it was free!)
we hiked through this one wooded area that looked like we had stepped into Lord of The Rings.
moss covering everything…i half expected fairies to jump out from behind little doors and say hello.
so incredibly magical. lando skipped rocks on the water, i stared at leaves and we just kept absorbing in the beautiful day.
we continued on our drive to kenmare (about 1 1/2 hours from kerry) and found this beautiful little pull off named ladies view – which had a cute little cafe and shop on the other side of the road. we climbed the barrier, sat on the rock, and just stared at the mountains to soak it all in before heading to our B&B (which i will share all about!) and dinner. we had a delicious first meal at P.F. McCarthys – i got a bowl of some scrumptious mushroom & onion soup (seriously, the best ever!) and some bread as well as a hummus platter with quinoa – Lando got a chicken pesto pasta and raved about it all night.
