do you ever feel like you don’t get a lot accomplished?
or maybe you’re like me and you jump from project to project without FULLY completing something – or am i totally alone in that?
the last time i said even a peep about this room was back in august after i finished painting.
the truth is i’ve had frames sitting next to my desk in the study (office/library whatever) for a solid 2 months. yup, i’ve admitted it – 2 MONTHS.
i also just realized that i never REALLY showed y’all how the bookcase looks in the room.
tsk tsk – man i’m tanking this blogging thing.
so i suppose i’ll start off with a “before” – before anything was done to this room.

blehk.
the blue walls shrunk the space, those shelves ::shudder::, so-much-JUNK.
no one really used this space before – it was truly a catch-all for anything you didn’t want to lug upstairs. i mean honestly who would willingly do “work” in this room.
& guys – this room is small.
this picture shows not only how small it is but how it was 3 different colors!

so i hmmed and haughed over the bookcase.
should i buy it? should i not? what could i find to house all of the books i had if i didn’t get it?
i bought it.
🙂
my uncle came over two different nights to build it and put it together.
if it was just me it would have taken 17 months – seriously i was looking at the ikea digram wanting to scream. could they MAYBE put some words on there? just maybe?
anyways, here is the bookshelf.
(sorry crappy iphone quality picture)

and i got around to hanging pictures, woot!
i kept seeing pictures like this and fell in love with the picture frame layout.
however i did not fall in love with how much those frames cost.
maybe i’m a cheap-o kind of girl but $16-$20+ PER frame when i needed 6 started making me hyperventilate. anyone else thing that is INSANE (because you still have to fill the picture frame!)
maybe i would splurge a little for a bigger area in the house – but for the study where it’s mostly ME and maybe my brother, cheap-o is the way to go!

I found these scrapbooking frames at michaels for $8 a piece – and had a coupon woop woop!
& i ordered some 5×5 pictures (app postalpix) from instagram.
i took my exacto knife and cut a (totally not perfect) square for the pictures – and framed them.
HOLLA.
cheap art – nice results.
{also can i say getting these suckers level and with the right spacing on the wall made me want to cuss}
ps sorry about the POOR lighting in these photos.
the overhead light is too-harsh and needs to be replaced – so i was working with what i had.

but let’s keep it real people – the room still has a ways to go.
the cord problem – out of control.
lighting – need some!
seating – hello loveseat?
more artwork on the walls.
etc.
so let’s pan back and see that hot-cord-mess

. . .

what house projects have you been tackling lately?

Cute space Amy! And if it makes you feel any better… we moved in over a year ago and painted most of the house. We only got the upstairs hallway half done. I STILL have to finish it but I have no plans to actually ever finish it haha. So the trim remains half painted/half not. And I don't really care. 🙂

I love the shelves!!! We need a close up on what pics you printed! 🙂 We've talked about frames before – I don't care where they're going to end up, they should be CHEAP!

The room is coming together so well!!! 🙂

House projects? Right now I have a long list, but I've got other stuff happening first.

LOVE the frames girl! I was going to say, if you have an Ikea near you they have cheap frames too! Looks amazing… my next house project is to paint a whiteboard wall in my kitchen. I have the paint, I just need to do it!

I'm STILL in love with that bookcase! So great. And those picture frames??! They turned out sooo great!! Fantastic job! And you are right, that is way too much for a frame. I love what you did!

I would hang out there all the time!

Giiirrrrl, it's beautiful! 🙂 What colour did you paint the walls? It's so soft and lovely!

PS. Great idea about the bookcase, and I love that it has doors! Makes it feel so much more finished to me.

    Lookin' good!

I am the same way about frames — and I'm a photographer! You'd think I would be ALL ABOUT investing in good quality frames; needless to say, I am not my ideal client, haha. Do you have a Hobby Lobby? Green Tree Gallery makes "quick frames" that have a really thin frame border. I bought 4 8×10 frames for $3.99 each. http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/8-x-10-black-quick-frame-253682/

I haven't seen any square options though :/ I may be making a Michaels trip because I am loving the ones you used!

We have the hot-cord-mess dilemma in our bedroom. It's a finished attic space with only two outlets…in non ideal locations. I think that's going to be our next big project…making the master bedroom function.
